THE FIVE GREATEST PHILOSOPHERS OF ALL TIME

It is a bit ludicrous to think that there is an objective ranking of all of the philosophers who ever lived. But that won't stop me from naming the top five. Click on the links to learn more about these philosophers. One of the criteria for making the list is that the person should have made significant contributions in at least three of the four primary areas of philosophy: ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, and logic. I have yet to declare the fifth of the greatest, so E-mail me your selection for the last philosopher to be added to the list with the reasons he or she should be there, and put "5 greatest" in the subject line. Currently, Descartes is the leading contender, but Aquinas is also garnering votes. (I am not counting the votes for David Haugen since they keep coming from the same e-mail address.)
